Leipzig (dpa / sn) – Saban Uzun is the new coach for the soccer players of RB Leipzig. The 35-year-old takes over as head coach from Katja Greulich, who is coaching the women’s team at FC Basel for the new season. Uzun has signed a contract with RB until June 30, 2024, the club announced on Friday.
“The team is very ambitious and my job is to bring the players to the next level. This is only possible if we form a sworn unit together with the staff and everyone submits to the team spirit,” said Uzun, who last played for worked for the Württemberg Football Association. At the age of 26, the native of Tübingen took over as coach at VfL Sindelfingen in 2014 and at the time became the youngest head coach in the women’s Bundesliga. From 2017 to 2019, Uzun was in charge of the U23 women’s selection at VfL Wolfsburg.
