Nona Gaprindashvili, champion of the chess world, has denounced Netflix for a controversial comment that can be heard about her in the Gambit of Lady.
The company may have to pay for five million dollars.

The series, based on the homonymous novel by Walter Tevis, tells the story of an orphan who becomes a chess prodigy.
The young woman has to deal with her problems of drug addiction and alcohol.

The main character, Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), is not based on a real chess.
However, fiction has references to real people and appoints Gaprindashvili in the last chapter of it.

In this installment, a commentator points out on the protagonist of history: “The only unusual in it, in reality, is its sex. And even that is not unique in Russia. It is Nona Gaprindashvili, but it is the Women’s World Champion and has never been
Faced with men. ”

These words have led the aforementioned chess player to take legal action.
She has filed a lawsuit against Netflix by defamation, highlighting that saying that she had never faced men is “false, as well as tremendously sexist and denigrating.”
She has argued that in 1968, the year in which the episode is ambient, she had already competed against 59 chess players.

“Netflix lied and deliberately lied up the achievements of Gaprindashvili with the cheap and cynical purpose of ‘enhancing the drama’ by making it appear that its fictional heroine had managed to do what no other woman had done,” can be read on demand.
In addition to compensation for the damage caused, the affected one also asks that a court order is issued to eliminate the phrase of it about it from Lady’s Gambit.

On the other hand, the champion has also complained that the series says that she is Russian, when in fact it is from Georgia.
The lawsuit refers to the fact that “Georgians had suffered under Russian domination when they were part of the Soviet Union and subsequently been intimidated and invaded by Russia.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a spokesman for the ‘Streaming’ platform has answered: “Netflix only has the greatest respect for Mrs. Gaprindashvili and her illustrious career, but we believe that this affirmation has no basis and we will vigorously defend the case.”

Lady’s Gambit was one of the winners in the Emmy 2021. Fiction took a total of 11 awards, including two of the main prizes in its category: Best Miniseries and Best Miniseries management.
Allan Scott, one of the creators of him, declared in the speech of gratitude of him: “We have taught the patriarchy who has no defense against our movements.”
