Erfurt (dpa/th) – A total of 26 research projects in Thuringia are to be financially supported with 11.5 million euros from the state treasury. It is about project funding for basic and application-oriented research, said Science Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD) on Thursday in Erfurt. The money goes to universities and non-university research institutions. A panel of experts working nationwide suggested the distribution.
One focus is on the acquisition of devices and laboratory equipment for specific research purposes. It is about projects in the fields of optics and nanotechnology, energy and environmental technology, materials research and medical technology. However, state funds would also support projects in the humanities and social sciences. “All in all, research in various areas relevant to society is being advanced. This is important in order to further strengthen our research facilities and ultimately the competitiveness of our companies,” explained Tiefensee.
According to the ministry, Thuringia provided around 165 million euros for the promotion of research and technology last year alone.
