Erfurt (dpa/th) – The international puppet theater festival Synergura in Erfurt attracted around 3700 visitors this year. The organizers are very satisfied with an occupancy rate of 85 percent, said Sibylle Tröster, the director of the Erfurt puppet theater Waidspeicher, which hosts the event.
Artists from Spain, Germany, Denmark, France, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the USA had been performing since Wednesday, the program ranged from poetic productions to performances with a decidedly political claim.
The festival is usually held every two years. The corona pandemic thwarted the plan in 2020, and the festival was canceled at the time. Some of the productions planned at the time have been included in this year’s programme.
The Theater Waidspeicher in Erfurt is well established in the puppetry scene beyond Thuringia. In Thuringia it is the only puppet theater that is permanently funded from the state budget. There are also puppetry sections at the theaters in Gera-Altenburg and Meiningen.
