Gera (dpa/th) – Around 30 people were evacuated in a basement fire in Gera. As the fire brigade announced on Thursday, the fire broke out on Thursday night in a high-rise building in the Debschwitz district. Water pipes burst due to the heat and hot water vapor was produced, which, according to a fire department spokesman, made firefighting more difficult.
The fire was extinguished after about three hours. According to the fire department, there were no injuries. During the operation, the residents were cared for by a care train. A total of 35 firefighters were on site. It is still unclear why the fire broke out.
