Erfurt (dpa/th) – The city of Erfurt was satisfied with the visitor interest in Thuringia’s largest Christmas market. Around 850 coaches came to the pre-Christmas market in Thuringia’s state capital, market master Sven Kaestner said at the end of Thursday of the German Press Agency. The city administration did not want to announce the exact number of guests until later. Before the opening of the Christmas market on November 22, 1.5 million guests were expected during the Advent season.
At 31 days, this year’s Christmas market in front of the Mariendom and Severikirche is the longest so far. Last year, Christmas markets that had already been set up in Thuringia, including in Erfurt, had to be dismantled again unused due to the dramatic worsening of the Corona situation. This year guests had stalls and rides from 163 vendors and showmen to choose from. The Erfurt Christmas market is one of the largest in Germany. In 2019, more than two million guests came.
