Erfurt (dpa/th) – In Thuringia, organic farming is being practiced on more and more areas. In 2021, 58,000 hectares and thus 7.5 percent of the agricultural area in the Free State were farmed organically, as Minister of Agriculture Susanna Karawanskij (left) said on Wednesday. Since 2015, the sector has recorded an increase in space of over 75 percent. The goal is a double-digit percentage of the organically farmed area in Thuringia.

“Organic farming has been growing steadily in Thuringia in recent years,” said the minister. Since large farms have also switched, organic farming is also leaving its niche existence. There are currently 745 organic farms, including trading companies and animal feed manufacturers, active in Thuringia.
