Gotha (dpa/th) – The Jewish Achava Festival Thuringia presents more than 50 events in two weeks in autumn. This includes, for example, nine major concerts, cooking courses, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, readings and eyewitness talks in Weimar, Erfurt and Gotha, among other places, as the festival management announced in Gotha on Thursday. The festival runs from September 10th to 25th.
Festival director Martin Kranz paid particular attention to cooperation with Thuringian schools. The educational program as part of the festival has been further expanded and supplemented. “As long as it is possible, we want to work with contemporary witnesses to the Holocaust and are preparing other new educational formats for schools that can also be used later,” he said.
The director was particularly pleased that Gotha was there as a new venue and partner. Several events are planned there, which represent a cross-section of Jewish life in Gotha. For the first time in more than 75 years, a Jewish service will be celebrated in Gotha.
In Eisenach, according to the information, the municipality and the church district of Eisenach-Gerstungen commemorate the reformer Martin Luther, who translated the New Testament from a Greek version into German in just eleven weeks at the Wartburg, under the motto “500 years of Bible translation”.
