Erfurt (dpa/th) – Thuringia’s Health Minister Heike Werner (left) considers further precautions to be necessary in the fight against the corona pandemic with a view to an expert report. “We need orderly procedures and a toolbox from which we can choose depending on the infection level,” explained Werner on Friday. She expects Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) to quickly draft a draft amendment to the Infection Protection Act. Werner also made this clear together with the department heads of the other federal states at their meeting on Friday. The Federal Government’s Committee of Experts had previously submitted an opinion on the effectiveness of previous corona measures.
However, Werner believes that the report is only partially suitable for preparing for the coming autumn and winter, as it refers to past phases of the pandemic. In addition, the experts had not considered that there was now the possibility of corona vaccination. The committee itself points out that further studies on the effectiveness of certain corona measures are necessary. “The fact that not all the required data was available does not mean that certain measures were not effective,” emphasized Werner.
In their eagerly awaited report, the experts judged protective measures such as wearing masks to be effective, but put question marks behind other requirements.
