Leipzig (dpa/th) – With snowfalls and permafrost, the winter in Thuringia has attracted attention. As reported by the German Weather Service in Leipzig, temperatures of minus two to zero degrees and minus five degrees in the mountains will remain below freezing this Saturday, even during the day. After a sunny start, clouds will gather in the afternoon.

The night before, temperatures in the Thuringian Forest had dropped to around 7 degrees. Minus 7.3 degrees were measured on the Schmücke and minus 7 degrees in Neuhaus am Rennweg (Sonneberg district). About five to ten centimeters of fresh snow fell in the Thuringian Forest. In the lowlands, on the other hand, there was very little white. It was said that Erfurt was just a bit “oversweetened”.

On Sunday night it will be bitterly cold with minus five to minus eight degrees, with snow clearing up to minus ten degrees. But it stays dry. On Sunday the temperatures will rise to one to three degrees, in the mountains to minus two to one degree. In the evening it can get slippery on the roads with snow, sleet or even freezing rain. At the beginning of the week, the temperatures in the mountains rose above zero again and the snow melted.
