Kherson was targeted again this Thursday, September 21, in the morning. Two people died following a Russian strike on the town in southeastern Ukraine. In addition to these two deaths, the governor of the region Oleksandr Prokudin took stock of this attack which also included five injuries, including one serious.

“The Russian army shelled the residential areas of Kherson […] At this stage we are aware of two dead civilians,” Mr. Prokudin wrote on Telegram, adding that four people had been transferred to the hospital, including one in serious condition, and that a fifth had been treated on site. He later clarified that the two victims were men aged 29 and 41 living in an apartment building.

During the night, several Ukrainian cities were targeted by Russian attacks, including the capital kyiv, where seven people were injured, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. “According to detailed information from doctors, seven people were injured in Darnitskyi district. Three of them are in hospital. Four were treated on site,” Mr. Klitschko wrote on Telegram, specifying that a 9-year-old girl was among those admitted to the hospital.

The head of the capital’s military administration, Serguii Popko, also indicated on Telegram that debris from downed Russian missiles had fallen in the districts of Golosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Desnyanskyi. “More than 20 enemy targets were destroyed by air defense,” Mr. Popko continued in another message, saying that Russia had attacked with “cruise missiles.”

Seven people were also injured in the town of Cherkasy, south of Kiev, after a hotel was hit by a missile, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said on Telegram, adding that the Rivne region (North -West) had also suffered damage. The eastern city of Kharkiv, near the Russian border, was also bombed, according to Mayor Igor Terekhov, who reported two wounded hospitalized.

The head of the regional military administration, Oleg Synegubov, counted “six strikes […] specifically in the Slobidskyi district.” Civilian infrastructure was damaged, he said. The Lviv region, in the northwest, was also hit, announced Governor Maksym Kozytskyi. He said three missiles had hit Drohobych, near the city of Lviv, without being able to provide information on possible victims.

These attacks come a few hours after Moscow assured that it had shot down 22 Ukrainian drones in annexed Crimea, above the Black Sea, as well as in the Belgorod and Orel regions.
