Four Ukrainian “saboteurs” have been “eliminated” according to the Russian security services (FSB). They allegedly tried to cross from Ukraine into the Bryansk border region, Russian news agencies reported.
The FSB and Russian Defense Ministry forces “prevented an attempt by a Ukrainian intelligence and sabotage group to enter Russian territory”, the security services said in a statement, quoted by the agencies. “Four saboteurs have been eliminated,” they claim without specifying a date.
According to the FSB, “foreign weapons, explosives, communication and navigation tools”, as well as drones with Russian state symbols and “Russian FSB property” labels were discovered. This “evidences preparations for provocations and acts of sabotage on Russian territory,” the FSB said.
On Tuesday, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, announced that Russian forces had prevented an incursion by a Ukrainian “group of saboteurs” into this border region of Ukraine. AFP was unable to say whether it was the same incident or not.
According to Bogomaz, “no one was injured” as a result of this incident, but an animal was killed, and industrial premises, as well as a car, were damaged by Ukrainian shelling.
Russian regions bordering Ukraine have been facing an increase in drone attacks orchestrated, according to Moscow, by kyiv for several months. Fighting and shelling also affected several villages near the border with Ukraine, killing several civilians.
At the beginning of June, incursions, claimed by groups of armed men claiming to be Russian and fighting alongside the Ukrainian army, also gave rise to violent clashes in the Belgorod region.
