The Ukrainian people are mourning their dead, after new Russian strikes. Two people were killed and three injured in western Ukraine, in Khmelnytsky, during a Russian attack that targeted several regions of the country on the night of Sunday February 26 to Monday February 27. More than ten Iranian-made combat drones are involved, authorities said.

The two people who died are rescuers who were on duty, said in separate statements the mayor of Khmelnytsky, Oleksandr Symchyshyn, and the governor of the Khmelnytsky region, Sergey Gamaliy. According to Serguï Gamaliï, the second rescuer succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital.

For his part, the Ukrainian Minister of the Interior, Igor Klimenko, pointed out that these two people were aged 21 and 31. While busy at the scene of an initial drone strike, they fell victim to another Russian attack, “deliberate on our heroes (who were) helpless,” Igor Klimenko wrote on Facebook.

According to the governor, there were three nightly strikes on Khmelnytsky, a regional center some 350 kilometers southwest of kyiv that had a population of about 275,000 before the Russian invasion. In its daily report released on Monday, the Russian Ministry of Defense, for its part, simply said that it had “destroyed the western special operations center in Khmelnytsky”, without however making the connection with the attack described by the Ukrainian authorities.

The Russian Ministry of Defense, meanwhile, said it had “destroyed the electronic intelligence center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in the Kiev region, in the area of ????the locality of Brovary”.
