That in the most delicate phase of the disease, at the moment in which palliatives intervene, patients can find in art a way to cope with the end of life. That is the maxim to which the social educator Silvia Fernández has been dedicated for years. She does it through the Palliative Art Foundation, which this Monday won the Princess of Girona Social Award.
Silvia seeks that through artistic expression workshops people in palliative care can find emotional well-being. A work that has not only been recognized by the Princess of Girona Foundation, which rewards young talent, but also by the European Union, where her idea won the Young Social Educators award. The NGO has already helped more than 6,000 people and works from hospitals to residences and homes.
Fernández learned of the jury’s decision in Zaragoza, where the members of the Princess of Girona Foundation (FpdGi) were meeting to inaugurate the Talent Tour for this course. It is an initiative of the Foundation that was born last year and that will visit several cities -Zaragoza, Valladolid, Lugo and Córdoba-, looking for talented young people. This year the Tour has been inaugurated with the support of Felipe VI, who has also attended the new project of the foundation: amplificarte.
Through music, the FpdGi seeks to ensure the mental health of young people. Thus, the entity, of which Princess Leonor is honorary president, has teamed up with music producer Julio Reyes Coppelo to create a series of songs that convey values. The themes are interpreted by six young people trained by the teacher and together with the songs a work guide for schools has been created, so that they can help their students through music.
