The Portuguese factory Autoeuropa, of the Volkswagen group, is going to paralyze its production for two months due to a lack of engine parts from a Slovenian supplier and will apply a “lay-off” (temporary suspension of contract) to its workers.
The Workers Commission of the plant, located in Setúbal (42 kilometers south of Lisbon), revealed today that production will be stopped between September 11 and November 12, although this time could be reduced if the problem is solved sooner.
During this period, the company will apply a “lay-off” to workers, although the administration assured that it should not have a negative impact on salaries.
Although automobile production will be paralyzed, other factory activities such as pressing could be maintained.
Autoeuropa is forced to stop its production due to a lack of essential components for engine manufacturing, from a Slovenian supplier whose operations were heavily affected by the August floods.
The plant, with nearly 5,000 employees and one of the largest exporters in the country, manufactures the T-Roc, Sharan and SEAT Alhambra models and produced 231,100 units last year, destined for the European and Asian markets.
