Agents of the National Police have arrested the former Canarian deputy of the PSOE Juan Bernardo Fuentes on Monday for his alleged involvement in the so-called Mediator case, an anti-fraud operation that investigates the management of aid for food products and for which he was under investigation, according to sources. close to the investigation.
The arrest of the former Socialist deputy in the Congress of Deputies until a few days ago has occurred in the context of the search of his home, on the island of Fuerteventura. Fuentes was general director of Livestock at the beginning of the mandate of the current Canarian Government and he was replaced in office by his nephew Taishet Fuentes, who is also allegedly involved in this case.
The investigation into the facts for which he has been arrested is led by the Investigating Court Number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which has already ordered the entry into provisional prison, communicated and unconditionally for the retired Civil Guard general who was in charge of the Las Palmas Command, Francisco Javier Espinosa Navas, for his alleged relationship in said case.
Also among the people whose statements have been taken is the nephew of Juan Bernardo Fuentes, the former general director of Livestock of the Canary Islands and PSOE candidate for Mayor of Antigua (Fuerteventura), Taishet Fuentes, who was released with the Obligation to notify change of residence.
In total, the number of detainees in the operation amounts to 12. All of them are being investigated for bribery, money laundering, forgery, belonging to a criminal organization and influence peddling.
According to sources from the investigation, the alleged crimes charged against the detainees are limited to the years 2020 and 2021, when the retired general was in charge of the GAR-SI Sahel project, in charge of training gendarmes in countries of West Africa and, therefore, without direct dependence on the organizational structure of the Civil Guard.
