The online retailer Buero.de has expanded its takeover bid for branches of the insolvent department store chain Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof. According to information from ntv.de, company boss Markus Schön is talking about taking over 47 branches of the department store group. So far 40 have been discussed. Schön is interested in locations in medium-sized cities.

Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof, the last major German department store group, wants to give up at least a third of its 131 branches, i.e. around 45, in the second insolvency proceedings within a good two years.

The company had filed for bankruptcy under self-administration last week. Insolvency administrator Arndt Geiwitz announced tough cuts. Only a hard core will remain of the department stores, he said. There will also be layoffs among the 17,400 employees.
