Soccer star Ronaldo has almost half a billion followers on Instagram – but suddenly there are a few million fewer. The background is apparently a technical glitch in the social network. Some users cannot log in – others receive the message that they have been suspended.
Numerous Instagram users were locked out this Monday due to a technical error in the social network. Some couldn’t log in. Others said “We suspended your account on October 31, 2022”.
The platform, which belongs to Facebook group Meta, confirmed the problem on Twitter, saying: “We are aware that some of you are having problems accessing your Instagram account. We are investigating and apologize for the inconvenience .” The notifications that they were suspended from the platform caused confusion among affected users as they had done nothing to justify being locked out.
Those affected were also concerned whether the erroneous blocking would lead to a drastic drop in the number of followers. Tech portal The Verge reported that Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s Instagram account had apparently lost 3 million followers in a short period of time – compared to 493 million the day before. However, after a while, the number of followers on some accounts increased again, according to the report.
