Homeowners will see property tax increase again this year. According to a study by Meilleurtaux, unveiled by Le Parisien this Wednesday, in 2022, it cost 111 euros per month, on average, for a couple with two children living in a 70 m². This is 6 euros more than in 2021 (105 euros per month). Depending on the city, this can represent up to two additional monthly mortgage payments for owners.

The Best Rates survey provides an overview of the different municipalities which shows that the lower the real estate prices, the higher the property tax. This is the case in Nîmes (Gard) and Saint-Etienne (Loire), where the property tax is particularly high (respectively 1,674 euros and 1,179 euros on average per year for a couple with two children in a 70 m²). . A tax that represents 1.9 monthly installments of additional credit. Le Havre (1,533 euros), Dijon (1,571 euros) and Le Mans (1,255 euros) are also among the cities with the highest tax.

Unlike Paris, where prices are soaring but the property tax is more reasonable there. In the capital, the monthly payment of credit is 4,511 euros on average, the annual property tax was 770 euros in 2022 (i.e. 0.2 additional monthly payment of credit). “While 2022 was a tough year for borrowers, 2023 will be no better, as they faced a double burden with rising local taxes and loan interest,” says Meilleurtaux spokesperson Maël. Bernier, with the newspaper.

This local tax is one of the only tax levers still available to mayors since the abolition of housing tax on main residences. According to the National Union of Property Owners (Unpi), the property tax as a whole (base and rate) increased by an average of 4.7% between 2021 and 2022 in the 200 largest cities in the country.
