Small cars from Fiat, Renault, Toyota and Kia are called Panda, Twingo, Aygo and Picanto. Hyundai is a bit more sober when choosing a name and christens its city car i10. What to consider when considering it as a used car? The TÜV sees light and shade in the main inspection.
Hunydai’s smallest, who once inherited the Getz, is now being driven by the third generation. We look at the second edition of the entry-level model from the Korean manufacturer. The small car is handy, but the main inspection (HU) shows light and shadow.
Model history
After the market launch of the model series in 2008, the second generation of the i10 under consideration came onto the market in Germany in 2014. The 2016 facelift brought infotainment that could now also be connected to smartphones (Apple Car Play and Android Auto), and the most striking feature was a new radiator grille. The third generation came onto the market in 2019.
body
The Hyundai i10 ranks among the smallest cars, it always has five doors. Body variants were not launched.
Dimensions (according to ADAC)
3.67 x 1.66 to 1.50 meters (L x W x H), trunk volume: 252 to 1046 liters.
Strengthen
Compared to its predecessor, it has grown in length and width, but is a bit flatter than before, so the i10 offers quite a lot of space for its segment. According to the “Auto Bild TÜV Report 2023”, the car presents itself at the HU with good rust prevention.
Drive shafts, steering joints as well as axle springs and dampers are complained about less often than the average; Brake hoses and lines and the exhaust system are exemplary; the emissions test (AU) is not a problem. Headlights and indicators also have a good record.
weaknesses
“Small cars equal minimal problems” – this calculation does not work out with the i10, according to the report. From the first HU, the little one spills oil and the foot brake is not effective, the brake discs wear out quickly.
Distorted low beams and the rear lights are also complained about early on. An increase in complaints from the second HU date can be observed in the steering system.
breakdown behavior
According to ADAC, a mixed performance here too. The club places the i10 of the second edition in the middle of its breakdown statistics. Copies of the first registration year 2016 even in the lower midfield. The main areas of breakdown are the battery (2014 to 2018) and the spark plugs (2020).
