With the month of February almost coming to an end, many are wondering when Easter 2023 arrives. But, unfortunately, we will have to wait until the first half of April.
In addition, the Easter holidays are not the same in all the autonomous communities. The only one that is celebrated nationally is Good Friday, which in 2023 will take place on April 7. This will also be the next holiday of the 2023 work calendar that will be held throughout Spain.
For their part, up to 15 regions, in addition to Ceuta and Melilla, include April 6, Holy Thursday, as a holiday in their work calendars. These are: Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, the Community of Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja.
While six autonomous communities will have a holiday on Monday, April 10, known as Easter Monday: the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja and the Valencian Community.
The date of Holy Week is different each year because Easter Sunday is calculated using the lunar calendar.
Thus, Easter Sunday will always be the one following the first full moon of the boreal spring (that is, from the northern hemisphere).
