Marcos de Quinto was critical of La que se avecina during an interview on the News To You podcast. He indicated that the comedy offers a negative image of businessmen through the character of Antonio Recio (Jordi Sánchez). The creator of fiction, Alberto Caballero, responded to his attacks.
The one who was a deputy for Ciudadanos declared: “When you see series like La que se avecina, who is the bad guy? The businessman, the fishmonger, who is unsupportive, is selfish, that is, all the evils. Just think of him, he is with the electric gun, he is exploiting a South American… You put everything bad next to the businessman”.
He also spoke about the representation of politicians in fiction: “Then you have a character who is good, who is the politician, who is the councilor, who is goofy, but who is well-intentioned. You go to Aida, the same thing.”
Marcos de Quinto finished off his speech by saying: “You begin to see how systematically in the world of creation they have begun to consolidate archetypes so that all the people in their heads assimilate businessmen with characters who are selfish and who are such. All this is a creation, all this doesn’t happen by accident. It’s studied.”
Alberto Caballero shared on Twitter on Tuesday, May 2, a fragment of the aforementioned interview published on Instagram with the text “the countercultural battle with Marcos de Quinto.” The scriptwriter replied: “Marcos, Antonio Recio is not the bad guy. He is the authentic Spanish hero! You have not understood the series.”
The also founder of the production company Contubernio Films once again resorted to irony in another message about it. “Poor businessmen… The one that is coming is a conspiracy against myself,” he wrote to define the series that can be seen on Telecinco and Amazon Prime Video.
