According to Andrew Baggerly, the Athletic, Buster Posey is retiring as a San Francisco Giants catcher.

Posey, who is only 34 years old, had a strong 2021 campaign. He posted an 889 OPS in 454 plate appearances, and was named to the All Star team. Posey’s career bWAR is 44.9 and his slash line is.302/.372/.460, which ranks him 16th among catchers.

The Giants drafted Posey fifth in 2008 from Florida State. Posey was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award for 2010, the Most Valuable Player Award for 2012, four Silver Slugger Awards, a Gold Glove and three World Series rings.

It is surprising that Posey is retiring at this stage, but it is an indication that he is leaving on a high note and after an incredible career.
