Everyone wants to look good. But when it comes to getting your butt off or doing without, the willingness decreases significantly. Dietary supplements with collagen for drinking promise beauty from within, without any hassle. Warentest tested them.

If you want to win over others, you also need to fine-tune your looks. And who doesn’t want that. Because being desirable is for procreation. Anyone who thinks that they only beautify their appearance for the sake of their reflection in the mirror is wrong, the genetic program of homo sapiens does not lie. It is important to be perceived as attractive by as many potential sexual partners as possible. Also through a vital appearance without disturbing wrinkles and sagging skin.

Such signs of skin aging can also be reduced through regular exercise, sun protection and a healthy diet/lifestyle, but admittedly this requires a lot of effort and sacrifice. It’s a good thing that dietary supplements with collagen or hyaluronic acid for drinking promise “less visible wrinkles” or “beauty from within”.

Hyaluronic acid and collagen occur naturally in the skin and connective tissue, keeping them firm, elastic and smooth. But as you get older, your body produces less of it. The result: eyebrows, cheeks, corners of the mouth slide down, wrinkles become deeper and more visible. In order to compensate for the natural loss, the suppliers recommend their drinks, which are often spiced up with sweeteners or fruit aromas. In addition to collagen or hyaluronic acid, they all contain mixtures of vitamins and trace elements. This allows suppliers to print health claims, i.e. health-related advertising statements, on their products. Health-related statements about collagen and hyaluronic acid have not yet been approved. In addition, there is no method to date that can be used to determine the hyaluronic acid content.

In order to find out whether things are actually that simple, Stiftung Warentest analyzed the ingredients of 15 beauty drinks in ampoules or stick form and checked whether scientific studies prove the effectiveness of the products in their respective composition.

The result is not quite as pretty. The benefit of the beauty drinks is therefore not verifiable. The testers are not aware of any studies that show a clearly visible effect. But there are definitely costs of around 17 to 82 euros per pack. If you take the products for at least six to twelve weeks, as recommended by many providers, you can quickly lose 100 euros and more.

The most expensive product in the test was Alp Beauty’s “Alp Nutrition”. The recommended daily ration costs 3.95 euros. Almost 120 euros come together per month, calculated over the year more than 1400 euros. The “Orthomol Beauty” costs 2.73 euros per month. Also particularly expensive is the “Dr. Niedermaier Regulat per Hyaluron” for 3.50 euros. But Warentest cannot with a clear conscience recommend cheaper products such as the “Doppelherz active collagen hyaluronic ceramide” for one euro a day – like none of the beauty drinks examined.

The testers also advise not to be blinded by the advertising promises. In order to absorb the vitamins and trace elements contained in sufficient quantities, no expensive dietary supplements are necessary. A varied diet is sufficient. And a lot of things that keep skin really smooth and young are free, such as getting enough sleep, getting plenty of exercise and not smoking.
