From the first steps in the university of Valladolid natal, where he left a lasting impression -as reflected in the “Chair of Philip II,” established by him in 1968, to his time as professor of Modern History at the Complutense University and, later, as academic of the Royal Academy of History, developed a research work that makes him one of the top experts in the EIGHTEENTH century, whose key intellectuals, social and political he knew how to tease with enviable analytical skills.
But his inexhaustible interest for the history made shift in other dimensions and periods of time before neglected. As shown by both its many publications such as the congresses he organized, together with the thirty-five doctoral dissertations and more than fifty bachelor’s thesis he addressed on the various aspects and stages of Spain and its Monarchy, regarded as open horizons to the rest of Europe and the world.
In particular, promoted the study of Italy in the Spanish, now converted into a priority historiographical, and in which he knew how to identify the significance of the Naples royal and bourbon, weaving a dense network of friendship and collaboration with some of the major Italian masters of his generation.
