Humberside Police Provides Update on Legacy Funeral Directors Investigation

Humberside Police recently provided an update on the Legacy Funeral Directors investigation, which has been ongoing for three months. The investigation was initiated following a report received on March 6 expressing concerns about the storage and management processes related to the care of the deceased at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors.

Cordons were placed at branches located on Hessle Road, Anlaby Road, and in Beverley. Subsequently, a 46-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of prevention of a lawful and decent burial, fraud by false representation, and fraud by abuse of position. Both individuals have been released on bail as the police continue their inquiries.

As the investigation progresses into its fourth month, Humberside Police confirmed that the formal identification process of the deceased recovered from the Hessle Road site has been completed. Additionally, investigations into allegations of suspected financial and fraudulent activities are ongoing.

Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin emphasized the complexity of the investigation and reassured the public of the commitment to thoroughly and sensitively investigate the matter. He highlighted the importance of supporting the affected families and providing them with updates and assistance as needed.

The police urged anyone who believes they have been affected or requires assistance to contact Victim Support’s 24/7 independent helpline at 0808 281 1136.
