In 2020, Rafael Tarradas (1977) revealed himself with his first novel, El heir, as a successful historical fiction author. The adventures of his own family, an illustrious genealogy rooted in the heart of Catalan society, allowed him to put together a book with the Civil War as a backdrop that Tarradas began as mere private entertainment but ended up in the hands of a publisher, Espasa, determined to make it a bestseller. That’s how it went. In 2022 a second novel arrived, The Valley of the Archangels, and now The Voice of the Brave, a tribute to the women who helped win the Second World War that follows in the footsteps of an illustrious daughter of that Barcelona bourgeoisie, Hilda Sagnier , turned into a German countess by marriage and a heroine by the events unleashed by Nazism.
Tarradas, who when he is not writing in his retirement in Valle del Tiétar works in a communication agency, enjoys the auxiliary obligations of literature, and receives cordially in his sunny apartment in Madrid for the interview. He feels the colors of his publishing house and participates in the promotion with almost sporting enthusiasm. «The other day, during the presentation, those from the editorial told me, you are doing very well, Rafa. And I told them, no, we’re doing well. I speak of “our authors”. I am part of a gear in which many people collaborate. The whole structure makes the end result good.
