Marion Bartoli is not the most experienced journalist, but the former Wimbledon winner has achieved a unique feat in France. She is currently the only personality to have obtained an interview with Tom Cruise, the American actor starring in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1”. The sexagenarian is back in the role that made him famous, that of Ethan Hunt. But how did these two celebrities, from very different worlds, come to have such a relationship? Bartoli explained to the Parisian.
“It was last year at a formal dinner at Wimbledon in Britain with many high profile guests. I was invited there as a former winner. I arrived late and I remember saying to my husband: I think I recognized Tom Cruise “explains the one who now officiates on RMC. After a speech delivered to the assembly, Marion Bartoli meets the gaze of the Hollywood actor. “I was extremely impressed, I certainly turned red. Tom Cruise, I grew up with his movies, I was born in the 1980s. I’m a huge fan, I loved Top Gun.”
But the worst is yet to come. Tom Cruise chooses to go to Bartoli’s table, before congratulating him on his Grand Slam title. “He called me by my first name and told me that he had seen me play and win the final with an ace on the match point and that he loved my style,” recalls the new journalist. Cruise then asks her how she handled her post-career. The former world number 7 tells him about his career change. The actor then replies: “Take my number, if ever I can help you, I will do it with great pleasure. »
What he will do by responding to an interview on RMC. “It went really well, we had a great time, it was very strong. He even sent me a little message afterwards to tell me that he was proud of me and that I had to continue in this direction. He saw me struggling to win a Grand Slam tournament and then for my new media career. He wanted to give me a hand and he’s kind of my coach because I can ask him for lots of advice,” concludes Marion Bartoli.
