American rapper MoneySign Suede, 22, was stabbed to death Tuesday night in a California jail shower, his lawyer, Nicholas Rosenberg, told the Los Angeles Times.
The young man, originally from Huntington Park County in Los Angeles, was called Jaime Brugada Valdez. His biggest hit, the “Back to the Bag” video has over 7 million views on his YouTube page.
Officials at Soledad State Prison, where MoneySign Suede was being held, reported in a statement that he was not in his cell at Tuesday night’s inmate count. During the search they found him seriously injured in another area of ??the prison, although the letter does not specify in which area he was.
They quickly tried to help him and alerted the emergency services, but shortly after he was pronounced dead. An investigation has been opened from prison to clarify the rapper’s death.
“They said it was a stab wound to the neck,” explained his lawyer, who noted in the LA Times that “he was a very popular guy, with very good manners. People loved him.”
Jaime Brugada Valdez was sentenced last December to serve two years and eight months in prison for two weapons-related crimes. The prison where he was held houses more than 4,000 men of minimum or medium security, according to the prison statement.
