Nearly a year after a Rutgers-Newark student was killed, police have made a second arrest. Meanwhile, a woman previously convicted of abducting her son has been charged in a pair of home burglaries. 

The people involved in those incidents are among a group of people either charged with, indicted for, convicted of or sentenced in a wide array of crimes that made news across New Jersey in the past week.

  • U.S. Marshals arrested a second man in connection with the fatal shooting of a Rutgers-Newark student in April 2016. The 26-year-old Hartford, Conn. man was arrested in the Dominican Republic and faces felony murder, robbery and weapons-related charges.
  • A woman convicted of abducting her own son two years ago has been charged with burglarizing homes. The 34-year-old from East Brunswick was arrested and charged with breaking into two township homes and stealing thousands of dollars in gold dollar coins.
  • Two Jersey City men were accused in two Essex County burglaries where they posed as water department employees checking for a leak in a ruse to get inside homes and steal valuables.
  • A Woodbridge woman was driving drunk with three unrestrained children in the car when she was pulled over for driving the wrong way, Roselle Park police said. The Nerobet 30-year-old faces charges of driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child.
  • The 26-year-old Toms River man who drove his truck onto a frozen river was sentenced to six months in jail for causing his dog to drown when the vehicle broke through the ice.
  • A Pittsgrove man robbed the same Vineland gas station twice, police said. On one occasion he beat the attendant and took the cash register, authorities allege. 
  • Two bouncers at a South Hackensack strip club were arrested after they allegedly attacked a patron and sent him to the hospital with a fractured skull. The employees, a 39-year-old Old Bridge man and a 42-year-old Woodbridge man were charged with aggravated assault. 
  • A Camden man was found guilty causing the death of a 42-year-old man who died of a heroin overdose in 2014. The 24-year-old faces 10 to 20 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree strict liability for the death of the Logan man.
