Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, confirmed the renewal of the law enforcement system for the third consecutive night this Sunday, July 2. 45,000 police and gendarmes will thus be mobilized to try to deal with the rioters who have shaken the country since the death of Nahel on June 27 in Nanterre.

The Minister of the Interior gave “firm instructions” and asked, “as before, that arrests be carried out as soon as possible”, said his entourage.

In the early morning, Sunday, the results were still only provisional. But, already, Gérald Darmanin spoke of a “quieter” night. The Minister of the Interior estimated the number of people arrested at 719. Far less than the 1,311 of the fourth night. By Thursday evening, some 875 people had been arrested.

This “quieter” night is also felt in the material assessment, drawn up, there too, by the Minister of the Interior: 45 police officers and gendarmes were injured, 577 vehicles and 74 buildings were set on fire, while 871 fires were counted on public roads. In addition, 10 police stations, 10 gendarmerie barracks and 6 municipal police stations were targeted, the ministry said on Sunday morning.

Since the beginning of the revolt, attacks against elected officials have continued to multiply. The mayors of Sannois (Val-d’Oise), Pontoise (Val-d’Oise), Maromme (Seine-Maritime), Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes), Cholet (Maine-et-Loire) or Saint -Pierre-des-Corps (Indre-et-Loire) were targeted, according to the president of the Association of Mayors of France, David Lisnard (LR).

The city councilor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses saw his home attacked by a burning car. On TF1, Sunday, he denounced an assassination attempt and deplored the disappearance of “living together”.
