The mayor of Orléans Serge Grouard announced on Sunday that he was slamming the door of his party. “I have decided to leave Les Républicains, after more than forty years of membership in the Gaullist political family,” he wrote in a statement. “While France is doing badly, the Republicans no longer have any political line and no more project for our country,” said the former deputy of Loiret.
“In seeking to play in Parliament ‘the hinge party’, a blow with the majority, a blow in the opposition, they lose themselves in little sterile political games, worthy of the worst hours of the Fourth Republic that General de Gaulle has yet so much fought, ”explains the chosen one.
Serge Grouard was a candidate for the presidency of LR at the Congress held in December, after the resignation of Christian Jacob, which saw the election of Eric Ciotti. In August 2022, he pleaded for a “government agreement” with the presidential majority of Emmanuel Macron, in a speech where he defended his candidacy for the presidency of the Republicans.
Because he believes that “the hour is serious and because the political crisis is brewing”, Serge Grouard recalled Sunday having “proposed during the internal elections to LR, without success, a clear and clear government pact with the president of the Republic on the basis of four emergencies for France: environment and energy, security and immigration, health and hospital, debts and state reform”.
“I persist: there is an urgent need to build a new majority to avoid the worst. Later, it will be too late”, warns Serge Grouard.
