Elisabeth Borne assured Wednesday that there was “no question” for the executive “to increase household taxes” in the finance bill for 2024, during an interview with France Bleu. “I see a lot of rumors that we want to raise taxes, there is no question – it is not the philosophy of the government at all – to raise household taxes. On the contrary, we want to continue to lower taxes while obviously being attentive to the purchasing power of the middle classes, “said the Prime Minister.

Asked also about the increase in the property tax, the Prime Minister replied that she had “no doubt that [local authorities] will also be attentive to the purchasing power of our fellow citizens”.

Similarly, there are no plans to raise taxes on alcohol.

But while the property tax, set by the cities, looks set to rise sharply, she acknowledged that her commitment only concerned the state budget. And she admitted that increasing medical deductibles was “part of the thinking” to make ends meet for 2024 under severe financial strain.

If she assured that purchasing power remained a priority for the executive, she also explained that a new “fuel check” was not on the table, ensuring that we should not expect ” a spike in prices “at the pump” in the coming weeks.
