Juantarius Bryant didn’t even hear his name called during the NFL Draft earlier this month also was among those free-agent rookies hoping to latch onto a group for the summer with hopes of making the starting roster come autumn.
On the other hand, the former Austin Peay defensive back revealed Saturday that he had been the victim of a hoax. He said someone introduced as Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Dean Pees and encouraged him to rookie minicamp during the week. The deal was too good to be true.
“I did not realize it wasn’t a legit chance until I traveled into the centre for rookie minicamp check in on Wednesday, May 12. It is most definitely among the most embarrassing things that has occurred to me and also a very humbling experience,” Bryant said. “Just need to apologize to everyone in the Atlanta Falcons organization for the mix-up. I honestly believed it was a legit chance on my conclusion.
“I don’t know or know why this happened, however, I do know that everything happens for a reason. Yes, this was dreadful for mepersonally, but only another stepping stone which I am not afraid to acknowledge or conquer. In the end of the day, this will not make or break me. I’ll still continue to struggle for my dreams because I know it’s what I really desire. I am still striving and still in the best shape of my live. When the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be prepared”
The Falcons have not commented about the alleged hoax.
Bryant was initially a walk-on player at Austin Peay and was redshirted his freshman year.
He turned his career around and managed to make the First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference staff in 2019.
