According to his own statements, ex-world champion Philipp Lahm is not working towards becoming president of the German Football Association (DFB).
“I have no ambitions to become DFB President. What comes after 2024 remains to be seen. I’m concentrating fully on the role as tournament director,” said the 38-year-old in an interview with “Kicker”. Lahm, who captained Germany to the World Cup title in Brazil in 2014, will be tournament director until the 2024 home European Championship.
The long-standing Bayern professional was critical of the rapid and numerous changes of coach in professional football. “When coaches are fired so quickly, the question arises: under what aspects were they brought in at all?” said Lahm. Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are prime examples of “that even great coaches need time to leave a mark”. Lahm also rejects the introduction of playoffs in the Bundesliga because they “contain too much coincidence for me”.
