Manchester United is looking for a goalkeeper and asks Kevin Trapp. Eintracht Frankfurt’s number one feels honored and thinks about it for a moment, but now decides against moving to England. However, United said the price was too high anyway.
Kevin Trapp had already left Frankfurt Eintracht for a top international club, in 2015 he moved from Hessen to France to join Paris St. Germain. The goalkeeper does not dare to take this step a second time – especially since it is debatable to what extent Manchester United in its current state still meets the requirements of a top international club. Trapp now announced via Instagram that he had a “written offer” and this honored him, but he had now “told those responsible at both clubs that I had decided on Eintracht”.
In the past few days, there had first been reports of United’s interest, then that the 32-year-old was seriously considering moving to the Premier League record champions. “Manchester United is a world club. I hope everyone can understand that I’m dealing with such an offer and thinking about it,” he explained further on his social media profile. The loyalty to the current Europa League champion, who is playing in the Champions League for the first time this season, obviously outweighs the lure of the island.
Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche had previously confirmed that he did not want to let the national goalkeeper go. “Transfer rumors and speculation are part of it, especially in this phase of the season,” he told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, but at the same time emphasized: “Kevin is an extraordinary goalkeeper, a leader and an important player. We are not interested in leaving.” Trapp’s contract with Eintracht runs until the summer of 2024.
In principle, transfer income is also “part of our business model,” Krösche continued in the “SZ”, because: “We sign players to achieve our goals.” And “if we can do that, other clubs will focus on our players. And if a player’s development is faster than ours, it’s natural to let him go – provided the financial framework is right.” In addition, footballers “only have a certain amount of time in their careers” to go their own way and to take care of themselves financially as far as possible. He named Filip Kosti?, who is now under contract with Juventus Turin, as an example.
According to reports from England, Manchester United is said to have started looking for alternatives before Trapp finally canceled the contract. According to the “Telegraph”, the 25 million euros demanded by Eintracht Frankfurt were too much for the traditional club from the north of England. Instead, Martin Dubravka was now the focus. The 33-year-old plays for Newcastle United, is the Slovakian national keeper and talks are said to have already started.
