French cyclist Franck Bonnamour (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale) was suspended “due to unexplained anomalies in his biological passport”, the International Cycling Union (UCI) announced on Monday February 5.
The Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) is an individual electronic file specific to each rider, in which the results of all anti-doping controls carried out over a given period are recorded. The Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team announced in a press release that it “takes note of the UCI’s decision” and that it suspends the rider as a precautionary measure “with immediate effect”.
The French team adds that this decision by the UCI “is based on checks carried out before his arrival in the team on January 1, 2023”. He was then in the French B team
Winner of the Polynormande in 2022, Bonnamour, 28, is best known for having been elected super-fighter of the Tour de France in 2021. At the dock after the end of this training, the Breton found refuge in December 2022 in the AG2R-Citroën team, which became Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale this winter. He participated in the Tour Down Under in Australia in January, where he took 54th place in the general classification.
