Old Dominion will function as the area’s No. 1 seed, together with all the South Carolina baseball team slotting in as the No. 2.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just 20 possible hosting websites were accepted by the NCAA, such as Founders Park. The Monarchs didn’t bidding to sponsor and weren’t one of those 20 approved hosting colleges, but they also played their way to a hosting restart by winning their first-ever Conference USA name and soaring to No. 7 at the RPI.
Though Old Dominion (42-14, 22-10 C-USA) will not have the customary benefit of playing its home arena, the Monarchs will start play against the No. 4 seed, also winning the first game of this double-elimination regional around is often overriding.
After fighting down the stretch, the Gamecocks (33-21, 16-14 SEC) slipped from this hosting arena in terms of restart but will reap a huge advantage in having the ability to play within their home ballpark for a No. 2 seed.
This specific situation was prognosticated by Teddy Cahill of Baseball America earlier in the week — and it is not particularly frequent. The last time that a No. 1 seed went away from home was once Florida State functioned as the No. 1 seed in the Norwich Regional at 2010.
