VfB Stuttgart narrowly makes it into the second round of the DFB Cup. The Bundesliga club received a yellow-red card against Dynamo Dresden and had to survive a hectic final phase. 1. FC Nürberg does not solve its first-round task much better. Karlsruher SC, on the other hand, is totally relaxed.

After a false start in the 2nd Bundesliga, Karlsruher SC has celebrated its first competitive win. Coach Christian Eichner’s team beat Oberliga side TSG Neustrelitz 8-0 (3-0) in the first round of the DFB Cup. Fabian Schleusener (12th, 14th, 41st) scored a hat trick before the break. After the change, Jerome Gondorf (67th), Malik Batmaz (72nd), Daniel Gordon (74th) and Simone Rapp (82nd, 87th) for the two-time cup winner in the one-sided encounter.

The KSC lived up to their role as favorites from the start. There was no sign of uncertainty after the defeats at SC Paderborn (0:5) and against newly promoted 1. FC Magdeburg (2:3). This means that Karlsruhe can once again dream of flying high in the cup. Last season, the second division reached the quarter-finals and lost there on penalties at league rivals Hamburger SV.

Second division soccer team 1. FC Nuremberg has only solved its first task with a lot of effort. The club won 2-0 (1-0) at regional league promoted 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn 07 after a long period of poor performance and prevented the second first-round elimination within three years. Johannes Geis (45.1) and Enrico Valentini (84.) scored in victories for FCN, who had luck on their side, especially after the break. For the blatant outsider Kaan-Marienborn it was the first defeat in the calendar year 2022.

Nürnberg started dominantly, but also very slowly and sluggishly. The Franconians even had to take a deep breath when Kaan captain Markus Pazurek didn’t get enough pressure behind a header (22′). Only then did FCN have chances, Mats Möller Dähli hit the post (33rd). Standard specialist Geis then took the lead with a direct free kick from 20 meters. But the hosts, whose coach Thorsten Nehrbauer had announced he would shave his full beard in the event of a win, did not give up: Derrick Kyere missed FCN goalkeeper Carl Klaus (47′), and even then the equalizer was in the air. Valentini made the decision.

VfB Stuttgart narrowly cleared the first hurdle in the DFB Cup. Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team beat third division club Dynamo Dresden 1-0 (1-0) and celebrated a successful start to their competitive game a week before the start of the Bundesliga. Darko Churlinov (33′) scored in front of 22,644 spectators in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium for Stuttgart, who were outnumbered in a hectic final phase after Waldemar Anton (67′) received a yellow-red card. With the victory behind them, VfB is now going into the game against RB Leipzig on August 7 (3:30 p.m. / DAZN and in the ntv.de live ticker) at the start of the Bundesliga.

After the failed third division start against 1860 Munich (3: 4), Dresden conceded the next bankruptcy and is still waiting for a competitive win this year.
