DeSean Jackson said Tuesday that he hopes to sign with a team that has a quarterback capable of winning championships and on Wednesday Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston publicly lobbied his team to sign the soon to be free agent wide receiver.
“I’ve met him before, and we want DeSean. You better believe we want DeSean here,” Winston said Wednesday, via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. “I think he would be a great asset to our team. Me growing up an Eagles fan, seeing what he did for the Eagles and back in his Cal days and even with the Redskins, I would love to have DeSean.”
Adding the 30-year-old Jackson to a passing game that already includes Pro Bowler Mike Evans would certainly give Winston a game-changing weapon in what appears to be a wide open NFC South division.
“I feel like I can be one of our best recruiters,” Winston said. “My main focus is to win. That’s what I enjoy doing.”
Eagles NFL Combine checklist
While Jackson has been linked to the Eagles through various free agent rumors and even ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes that a reunion with the team that drafted him could be in Jackson’s cards, the Buccaneers are well positioned to win a Bahis Siteleri bidding war when the league-year opens.
The Eagles currently have approximately $15.2 million in spending flexibility under the cap. However, Tampa Bay is well positioned with approximately $70 million to spend.
Jackson finished last season with 1,005 yards (his fifth season with 1,000 yards or more) and four touchdowns with the Washington Redskins.
