The images are difficult to watch. Margot Chevrier was seriously injured – her left ankle twisted – in the final of the pole vault competition at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow (Scotland). The French indoor champion landed badly during her second attempt at 4.65 meters. She had passed 4.55 meters on her third try.

After being taken care of for many minutes directly on the arena of the Emirates Arena, in great pain – she was treated with an oxygen bottle – Margot Chevrier was evacuated on a stretcher. She was then directly transferred by ambulance to the emergency room, accompanied by a doctor from the French team.

The diagnosis is not yet definitive, but she could suffer from an open fracture in her left ankle. A hard blow for the 24-year-old athlete who was making full progress and who was aiming for selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She had passed 4.66 meters this winter and claimed to pass the minimums (4.73 m) or qualify for the ranking.

Without making much progress, her season seems to be over and she should be absent for many months.
