Kylian Mbappé is not on the list of Paris SG players who will take part in a tour of Japan from Saturday, according to the list published by the club on Friday, without giving an explanation for the absence of his star. This decision by PSG, reigning French champion, comes as the two parties are divided over the extension of the French striker’s contract. The younger brother of the captain of the France team, Ethan Mbappé, 16, is one of the 29 Parisian players who fly to Japan.
Kylian Mbappé still wants to go to the end of his last year of contract, the club wants to either extend it or sell it, discussions should therefore continue behind the scenes in the land of the rising sun, especially since President Nasser al-Khelaïfi has set July 31 as the deadline for a decision. As in a divorce, the two parties are talking to each other by post. After Mbappé’s letter explaining that he would not activate his option for a third year of contract, until 2025, PSG replied in a letter of July 3 which AFP consulted.
Referring to “enormous prejudice” if Mbappé left free in June 2024, without any transfer compensation for the club, PSG left until July 31 to Mbappé and his advice to avoid “paralysis of the club”: either he extends or he leaves this summer. President Nasser al-Khelaïfi even publicly revealed this deadline during the presentation of Luis Enrique. Recalling the massive investment during the extension of Mbappé’s contract in the summer of 2022, PSG explains in its letter that these sums “can only be included in the context of a future sale or continuity beyond June 30, 2024, as agreed between us”.
