A participant in the first edition of the Rallysprint San Bartolomé, in the province of Ávila, has died this Sunday after rushing with his vehicle down a slope of Puerto del Boquerón, sources from the Civil Guard and the organizers of the event have confirmed.

The accident, in which a driver from Avila lost his life, occurred in the second timed section of the competition, when the vehicle was in a downward direction, from the top of Puerto del Boquerón.

The Fiat Abarth Grande Punto that he was driving left the road in the first downhill area and plunged down the hill, after a series of impacts that left the two occupants of the vehicle inside.

Finally, after the arrival of health care at the place where the vehicle was located, the death of the pilot has been confirmed, while the co-pilot is injured, according to Ávila Emergencies.

It was the first edition of the ‘Rallysprint San Bartolomé de Pinares’, which had the participation of some forty pilots and a route of 10.95 kilometers on the AV-503, a route known as the Puerto del Boquerón. The competition has been suspended after the fatal accident.

This is the second fatal accident that has occurred during a rally in a week. On the 16th, the driver Julio César Castrillo and his co-driver, Francisco Javier Álvarez, died while participating in the Villa de Tineo Rally when they went off the road with their Citroën DS3 N5 and collided with a tree in the penultimate section of the Asturian event. .
