Violent thieves specialized in stealing high-end watches do not even respect elite athletes. The Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating the assault suffered by the Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov while he was driving a car in the Sarrià area of ??Barcelona last Friday night when he returned from training since he will participate this week in the Open Barcelona Banc de Sabadell, known as a Godó tournament.
The tennis player was the victim of a specialized gang, according to police sources for the method used to rob him. Thus, while a car was going, a motorist passed by him and closed his rearview mirror at a traffic light. When he put out his hand to reposition it, the thieves held his arm and took his watch valued at 70,000 euros.
After the assault, the tennis player went to file a complaint with the Mossos d’Esquadra who have started the investigation to catch the suspects. The first inquiries suggest that they could be members of a foreign gang displaced to Barcelona to commit this type of robbery specialized in high-end watches or jewelry, according to ‘El Caso’.
He is not the first athlete to be robbed in Barcelona. Last August, almost recently arrived in the city after his transfer to Barça, a thief stole the Rolex from the wrist of the player Robert Lewandowski when he arrived for training at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper in Sant Joan Despí and stopped with his car to sign autographs for some of the fans. Shortly after the suspect was arrested in an area near the training ground where there are orchards.
A year ago, coinciding with his participation in the Spanish Grand Prix held at the Montmeló circuit, Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel was in the city when some thieves took advantage of the fact that his car was stopped in front of a hotel on Paseo de Gracia to take the bag from her.
The pilot used an electric scooter to follow the trail of the robbers since inside the handbag there was a wireless headset with a geolocator. Vettel did not find the thieves, but he did recover the headphones that were left in a store in the Ciutat Vella district.
