The CSU Chairman and federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer rejected criticism of constitutional gerichtspräsident Andreas Voßkuhle. The Süddeutsche Zeitung told Seehofer that “President of such a court” should “not be a language police”. He referred to an interview Voßkuhles in which he criticised language in German refugee debate.

Seehofer said he had “high respect for Federal Constitutional Court”. It has also contributed to stabilising rule of law through wise judgments over decades, but it deems recent criticism of Voßkuhle to be inappropriate. “The hyposes that I would have liked to arouse associations with this rhetoric about Nazi-injustice state, I think is unacceptable,” said Seehofer.
Voßkuhle had criticized CSU leaders in refugee debate without mentioning m by name. Voßkuhle also spoke out against term “anti-deportation industry”. CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt had used him with reference to asylum lawyers. “Those who claim legal guarantees must not be insulted,” said Voßkuhle.
In anor interview, Seehofer, who was instrumental in union’s internal asylum dispute, said that he welcomed a restrained choice of words in refugee debate: “We must hold a course, but with a proper language,” he told Frankfurter General newspaper.
