Giessen (dpa/lhe) – Giessen’s city center will be closed to traffic on Thursday afternoon due to a demonstration. According to the announcement, the city administration expects 800 to 1,500 demonstrators. According to the police, the organizer of the demo is an Eritrean association that sympathizes with the country’s government. The five-hour action is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. – flanked by a large police force.
The city council will deal with the violent protests at the Eritrea Festival in August in the city hall on Thursday. At that time, helpers and visitors were attacked, several of them were injured.
The public utilities announced on Wednesday that bus traffic was also affected by the blockage. Several stops cannot be reached, and delays and cancellations are to be expected.
