Velbert (dpa / lnw) – A 78-year-old woman was hit by a train in Velbert and killed. As the Mettmann district police announced on Friday, the pedestrian wanted to cross a level crossing despite the half barriers being closed and apparently overlooked the approaching S-Bahn. The engine driver immediately initiated emergency braking, but was unable to bring the train to a standstill in time. The woman was fatally injured in the accident on Thursday. According to the investigation, a technical defect at the level crossing can be ruled out.
