Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) – Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier comes to the General Assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Karlsruhe. The Office of the Federal President announced on Thursday that he would give a speech at the opening next Wednesday. More than 4,000 representatives of Christian churches from all over the world are expected by September 8th. The Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the WCC and usually meets every eight years. The WCC sees itself as a fellowship of around 350 churches representing more than 580 million people worldwide. The Catholic Church is not a WCC member, it attends as a guest.
