Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Hesse’s Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) has no doubts about the legally sound construction of the new University for Public Management and Security (HöMS). The allegations by the opposition are completely exaggerated and have nothing to do with reality, the minister said on Monday in Wiesbaden.
The academic freedom of the university is not endangered. The police and scientific areas are clearly separated from each other. There is no overlap and no influence on research and teaching. The general accusation made by the opposition is unfounded.
The SPD and FDP opposition factions in the Hessian state parliament have filed a constitutional complaint against the organization of police training in the state. They doubt whether the state government’s law establishing the HöMS is compatible with the state constitution. The parliamentary groups submitted a joint application for norm control to the Hessian State Court.
According to their own statements, the SPD and FDP see academic freedom in danger. In addition, the Ministry of the Interior has too much influence on the fortunes of the university and the filling of management positions.
Candidates for higher administrative service as well as for a career in the Hessian police can study at the new university. In addition, all training courses for employees of the state administration are organized by the university.
