Zeithain (dpa/sn) – A week and a half after the big forest fire in the Gohrischheide on the Saxon-Brandenburg border, there is again a suspicion of arson. On Sunday, the undergrowth on the forest path in Gröditz was set on fire in at least two places, the police and public prosecutor announced on Monday. The fire spread to about 9,000 square meters and could then be extinguished.
There had already been several arson attacks in Gohrischheide on June 23rd and 25th. The fire had developed into the largest forest fire in Saxony for 30 years and extended to Brandenburg. The investigators have so far received four tips on the arson attacks in June.
The Dresden police have now launched the investigation group “Heide” because of the repeated arson. Six criminalists work there, according to the authorities. They asked for witnesses to the arson on Sunday.
